The Next Big Thing: Learn About The Author

Yay! I have been tagged in this wonderful writing game by one of the #PitchWars Mentors, the awesome Dahlia Adler. So here’s the scoop:

What is the working title of your book? A Song In Winter-The Immortal Seasons Book I

Where did the idea from the book come from? My brother-in-law’s wedding. It was midnight in January, snow everywhere, and the bride’s little sister sang. It captivated me.

What genre does your book fall under? YA Fantasy.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? India Eisley for Genna, and (Hello Jude!) Alex Pettyfer for Coll.

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? Chosen by the gods to become the Immortal Season of Winter, 17-year-old Genna is immersed in a dangerous, glittering realm of myth and legend, where the price of destiny may be her soul.

Will your book be self-published, or represented by an agent? Ah. Doesn’t every writer dream of being repped by an agent? I do! I’m working towards that effort, though I have researched the self-publishing industry as well.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? I wrote the very first page in 2010, and though the idea stayed visible in my mind, I didn’t really get back into it until this year. So I’d say, about 6 months total.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? The first one that comes to mind is Melissa Marr’s WICKED LOVELY series.

Who, or what, inspired you to write this book? I love Jacqueline Carey and Juliet Marillier. Their beautiful prose and epic tales definitely inspired me. I’ve been writing off and on for fourteen years, and within the past two years decided to get serious about realizing my dream. That made my muse happy.

What else about your book might pique a reader’s interest? A rich new world full of fantastical creatures. A new twist on the age-old myth of the dying god/sun god. Each book in the series will be vastly different, as each Season is different, but they all have a common goal, a common enemy. A Song In Winter is about a young girl who finds courage and enduring love in the midst of loss.

And now–TAG, you’re it! Kate Brauning, Rhiann Wynn-Nolet, EM Castellan, and Chynna-Blue, four lovely authors I adore!
